Natural Investments Selected to Join the Global Innovation Lab for Climate Finance

Natural Investments has been invited to join the 2026 cohort of the Lab! This represents an important milestone for Natural Investments and the broader Natural Capital group.

The Lab is a global public-private initiative that develops and incubates innovative climate and nature finance solutions. As an investor-led, program, it brings together one of the most experienced networks of financial institutions, policymakers and impact investors working to mobilise capital for climate action. To date, 87 initiatives have progressed through the Lab, collectively mobilising more than $4 billion in investment for climate solutions across emerging economies.

As may be imagined, this was no easy entry process. The application process played out over six months, with the Lab receiving a record 1,172 applications for just eight places. Natural Investments was also competing against 445 other initiatives in the mitigation stream. The success of this application, therefore, is one of our greatest accomplishments to date and thoroughly reinforces the strength of our model and team in claiming this prestigious win.

The opportunity that the Lab provides Natural Investments is one-of-a-kind. Over the course of seven months, Natural Investments will work closely with leading investors and technical experts to refine its model through in-depth strategic support, financial stress-testing, and structured investor engagement. Following this process, participating initiatives may become eligible for up to $250,000 in grant funding to move from design to implementation.

At Natural Capital, our work to transform conservation landscapes into viable, long-term investment opportunities continues to build momentum. The Natural Investments platform was created to unlock the significant potential that Southern Africa holds for investors, ecosystems and communities alike. Participation in the Lab represents an important step in advancing that vision.

This achievement reflects the dedication of the team, led by Chief Investment Officer Anne Cathrine Garde and CEO Steve Cunliffe, who guided the platform through the Lab’s rigorous multi-stage selection process. We cannot wait to get started on this process, roll up our sleeves, and make the most of every moment within this incredible initiative. This is yet another momentous victory for Natural Capital in what, in just a few short months, has already been a banner year.
