Resource Protection Unit HQ

The Luangwa Corridor Conservation Project is currently in the final stages of construction for a brand new, dedicated Resource Protection Unit Headquarters within the project site.

This facility is a hugely welcome addition to the project and will increase the capability of every team within the project enormously.

The site was carefully selected to be a strategic location for Rangers, allowing them the opportunity to monitor the landscape in its entirety, protecting the unique animals, ecosystems and people who call this wilderness area home. Once completed, the facility will offer a high-quality training centre, community hall, kitchen, accommodation, and technical support centre, ensuring that the Rangers have every need met in order to carry out their vital duties to protect this unique landscape.

The site is also equipped with its own telecommunications towers and has a solar power source running from solar panels situated around the site. This will allow the running of the site to continue independently and almost completely off-grid, something which will be a huge benefit to all staff and rangers in this remote corner of the country.

Foundations of Building

Along with being the Resource Protection Unit HQ, the facility will also house the operational staff of LCCP. This will ensure that, along with the protection programme, LCCP will be greatly enhancing their capacity to maintain the research, monitoring and infrastructure programmes that are currently in place. These programmes, run in coordination with our incredible research partners and internationally aligned technology systems, will continue to shed light on this previously unmonitored landscape

Increasing the presence of staff and units on-the-ground within the project site allows the project to greatly improve the development of the project, streamlining processes, increasing area-based roll-out and improving the quality of technological implementation.

LCCP is hugely thankful to all our partners who have helped make this site improvement possible and every member of the LCCP ecosystem is incredibly excited to open the doors of the site and begin the next phase of protecting the future of this iconic Zambian landscape.
